Shop Small & Shop Local

In the spirit of giving, we ask you all to please consider supporting small businesses when you do your holiday shopping this year.

Every dollar spent at a locally owned, independent business generates 2-3 times more economic activity in our communities than a dollar spent at a national chain.  When you shop small, you pay someone's rent, put gas in their car and encourage their dream.

We feel so very lucky to have such incredible customers all year round, but especially during the holidays. We hope you will continue to shop local and shop small - it truly does make a difference in our local economy and in the lives of countless artisans, designers and community members.

Oh, hi there!  We're Sarah and Shawn Gluchacki, the owners of The Windmill Paper Boutique.  In celebration of Small Business Saturday tomorrow, we thought we'd share a little about ourselves.
Sarah has a BFA in graphic design and painting, and got her start working in a letterpress printing company in Syracuse, New York.  Shawn has a background in math and physics and (shockingly) has basic social skills.  We were our own first clients when we got married in August 2012, and then moved to Boca Raton to open up The Windmill.  We'll travel pretty far for craft beer and great meals, we're serious coffee snobs, and we are known among our friends to send the greatest cards for every occasion (go figure!).  We love paper, invitations, weddings, dogs, and a perfect beach day.

We are in LOVE with the brand new custom holiday designs we have in the shop!  Letterpress, foil, photo printing, edge paint, envelope liners, and more... these are not your typical holiday cards.  Swing by anytime to see all of the designs and options, or make an appointment to discuss your cards one-on-one.  Plus, order Smock holiday cards by December 10th and they'll rush your order at no extra cost! holiday-graphic

Be inspired: Miami Skyline

We are wrapping up this busy but amazing week with an inspiration post based on our very own gorgeous Miami skyline, inspired by a photo from the incredible Maggie Stolzberg.  We kept this wedding invitation design soft with dusty neutrals, and added just a hint of deep blue to the edge. Everything you need to know about save the dates!

With all the winter and spring weddings coming up, we’ve been asked a lot of questions about save the dates.  Well, friends, we are here to help! save-the-date-1

When should I start thinking about save the dates?

You’ll want to send them out as soon as you reserve your venue and date.  Typically, this is done 6-8 months before the event, but can be up to a year beforehand if you’re inviting many out-of-town guests.

How many save the dates should I order?

When deciding how many save the dates to order, the first step is getting your guest list together.  Remember that you’ll just send one save the date to each couple or family, not to each individual, so typically you’ll need about 60% of the total number of guests you’re inviting.  We recommend ordering 10-20 extra for those last-minute guest list additions, and so you’ll have a few left over as keepsakes.

What should I include on my save the dates?

The must-haves for a save the date are name(s), event type, date, and city.  Many opt to include accommodations information as well, so out-of-town guests can make their travel arrangements early.  And if you have a website for your event, be sure to include it on the save the date as well - that way, your guests can keep up with new information as it becomes available.

Do I have to think about invitations now, too?

That is totally up to you.  Many save the dates are sent before the event theme and colors are picked out, so we often recommend that you choose a save the date design that you like and not worry about it fitting the rest of your event.  However, if you’d prefer for the save the date to be a glimpse of what’s to come, then you may want to start by picking out your invitation design first and then choose a coordinating save the date.

Be inspired: Garden Cocktails

It's thyme for our weekly inspiration post!  This week's invitation design, inspired by a photo of the Floridian Weddings relaunch party by Vitalic Photo, shows that a one-color design can hold its own, too.  We spruced it up with sunshine yellow edge paint, and imagine this design paired with a simple, organic patterned liner. Want to see what we would come up with for an invitation design based on your inspiration board?  Leave a comment below with a link to your Pinterest, and we'll put something together for you!

Be inspired: Sparkly Celebration

We hope everyone had a great fourth of July!  We're not ready to be done celebrating, so we're keeping that spirit alive with this week's inspired invitation design, featuring a photo by Liga Photography.  This invitation would be gorgeous in black letterpress ink and silver foil.  We love the monochromatic look with a bright pop of color on the edge - and the design shows that fun & festive design is totally possible without losing elegance! Be inspired: Sweet French Rose

The moment we saw this photo from Chelsey Boatwright Photography, we knew it was the one for this week's inspiration post.  The sweet, soft, slightly modern take on roses with coral, peach, and hints of yellow and green, is totally our style - and how gorgeous is that cake?  We envision this custom designed invitation to be paired with a subtle quilt-like envelope liner inspired by the overall cake pattern.  Love! 2014.06.27

Be inspired: Soft & Sweet Scallop

South Florida has been under a perpetual rain cloud this week, but we're finding inspiration in the stormy grays and blues of the sky.  Amidst our daydreams of sunscreen and splashing in the ocean, we also dreamed up this custom invitation design, with inspiration from a gorgeous ring photo by the amazing (and Florida-based!) Vitalic Photo.  We are loving the soft pink edge and thinking blind letterpress for the subtle scallop patterned background - how pretty! 2014.06.20
